The Pompey's Pillar; Alexandria

The very first site visiting we touched down is this...
So here I'm showing some pictures that shot by my LCA+
The Pompey's Pillar.
Or some people would prefer the so-called column of Pompeius.
Depends on which one you would prefer to read.

Pompey's Pillar,
I'm talking about the pillar, not the sphinx.
It's a massive 25meters (82ft) tall;
Made from one piece of super hard red granite;
Measuring 9meters (30ft) around its grit.

We were quite worry about the army at first, they were everywhere!

It was so huge, and so beautiful of course.
Let's move closer to the pillar.

Ah Hah!! And this classic wooden chair for the security was placed right at the side of the huge Pompey's pillar.
Well, he's got his job on duty.

This is a shot taken by Horizon Camera.
Notice the size of the base of the pillar is so much bigger compared with a person standing there.

Here are some shots taken by a digital camera.
Yes, it looks normal from far.

I'm saying that there was just a pillar,
There are quite some numbers of Sphinx too.
This is the best shot suggested from the security guard,
as he was giving a signal of tipping him @@ "Thank you!"

That is a statue of a scarab.
If you've seen a movie "The Mummy",
then you'll understand what a scarab means in Egypt.
"Life after death".
They believe that as luck.

As far as I understand from our tour guide,
This place used to be a famous huge temple in Alexandria.
However, what we see today is what was left.
This picture, is a big swimming pool with something like jacuzzi.

And in ancient time, they named it "PISCINA".

We could still see the staircase to the underground of the temple.

And some other broken stones that has been discovered.

Modern Engineers are still working on this site, rebuilding the temple.
Anyway, the making such a huge pillar using unknown engineering work back in more than 5000years ago. I wonder how they do that.
